This week in english class, I learned all about ocean and marine life on frontrowed.com. I learned about the many marine biomes in our ocean and plants and animals that live in it. The earth is made of many large ecological areas that contain visible plants and animals. These areas are known as biomes, and the plants and animals that exist in each have adapted specifically to thrive in that location. Of these biomes, the marine biome is the largest in the world. It encompasses oceans, coral reefs, and estuaries. Altogether, it covers about 70% of the planet! That’s a very large space! The Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, and Arctic Oceans all have the marine biome crossing it. Epipelagic, mesopelagic, and bathypelagic are all three layers of the marine biome. Together, these layers form the habitats of many animals. In fact, the ocean houses more than 80% of all habitats on Earth! The aphotic zone is so deep that the deepest point in the ocean, at 36,200 feet, is actually deeper than the height of Mt. Everest! The plant and animal life found in the ocean is incredibly diverse. Scientists have discovered more than one million species that live in the water. They predict as many as nine million are still waiting to be found! But in terms of animals, the ocean is home to many types of fish, whales, sea anemones and mollusks. These animals have traits that help them live underwater with cold temperatures and lack of sunlight. Lastly, I learned about human relationship with the marine biome. We rely heavily on the ocean. We use it for good, transportation, hobbies, and medicine. But, the demand for resources from the marine biome have become very intense that their ecosystems are suffering lots of damage. We must take care of our ocean environment for it to continue existing as it always has.

An event that currently happened in my life was Harry Styles announcing tour dates for his new album *literally* called, “Harry Styles”. If you live under a rock, Harry Styles is a singer/song writer, actor, and model that is known for being in a band called One Direction.. I can already hear the sighs of people who hate them reading this.. BUT DEAL WITH IT. Since the band is currently on their very long hiatus, all of the boys, especially Harry, are really taking the time to focus on their solo work. He recently debuted with his first single called, “Sign of the Times,” which is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life, I hope I am not being biased but it’s true. After that, he announced his new album, as I’ve mentioned before, and now released tour dates! I am hoping to plan to go to the Los Angeles show on September 20th! It’s all happened in less than a month, and I’m already stressed about it. I’m stressed because I support Harry so much in his career that I am slowly losing more money and time for him. If you didn’t know, I actually have a life outside of liking Harry, pretty surprising, huh. And it’s taking away my time from the real world like school, friendships, etc. But, I would DIE for Harry, so not supporting him in buying tickets for his tour would just be horrible. But the bad thing is, I might not even be able to buy tickets :( Ticketmaster is doing this stupid thing of randomly choosing people to receive a code to purchase tickets, which is the ONLY way you can buy tickets… which is stressing me out so much if you couldn’t tell already!! Tickets come out Friday, May 5th, so I really hope I get chosen or I will literally bury myself in a hole and stay there forever. Not to be self-centered or selfish, but I think like me and my other friends deserve to go to his show because we all support him through twitter and always keep up to date with what’s going on with him. It’s just what you do when you love someone so much, you care for them and support them in whatever they do, just so they can be happy.. like how I am with Harry because his happiness is so important to me :’)

First off, bullying is when you are overbearing a person and intimidate smaller or weaker people. Some types of bullying can be physical, verbal, social, or cyber (aka online bullying). Physical bullying involves hitting, pushing, tripping, and any other kind of force. Verbal bullying involves hurtful comments, name-calling, and teasing. I know what you are thinking, “Teasing isn’t bullying, I tease my friends all the time and they don’t feel threatened!” Well, teasing can be used in my other ways. There are times where you may be teasing someone but it can turn into hurting their actual feelings, and that’s not something you should do. You can cross over that line of “friendly teasing” to “hurtful teasing.” Social bullying is when you may be lying or spreading rumors, excluding people, or damaging someone’s social reputation or social acceptance. This type of bullying maybe something you are familiar with. We go through this every single day of our lives. At school, at home, etc. And last in our list is Cyberbullying. Cyberbullying happens over cellphones or the internet. It can be abusive or harmful posts, images, texts, or imitating other online. We watched a short film of man, named Jamie, telling his story of how he was severely bullied when he was younger. He was known to be a homosexual, and bullies in his school would physically abuse him for it. It was so saddening to hear his story until he filed a law suit to sue his school for not standing up for him. His school would say, “We will make sure to take care of the situation.” but of course, they never did. Jamie was bullied and harmed every single day of his life, but no one did anyone about it. He won the law suit and the news spread all over the country because he was the first gay man to stand up for himself to file a law suit. In the end, I learned that we should be nice and stand up for the people who are going through these things right now.

If you have never heard of the Titanic, then you have lived under a rock because it’s one of the most heartbreaking event that has occurred in history. The Titanic was the largest and most impressive ship of its time, considering it was the largest and most luxurious ship ever created. The ship took over three years to build and by the time it was completed, it was 882 feet long and 104 feet high… that’s pretty huge! Ot was created by The White Star Line, a company that specialized in making large ships. The interior part of the ship was full of luxurious and extravagant things to do. You go to the swimming pool, the library, the gym, the barbershop! Anything you can imagine. This ship was the largest ship ever when it left Southampton, England on it’s maiden voyage to New York on April 10, 1912. They had 885 crew members and had a total of 1,317 guests on board. A majority of these guests were the wealthiest people in England, but there were also many poor people who were emigrants, just wanting to travel to America. They were kept in a separate area and were unable to use features only for the rich. But unfortunately, things were going downhill on the ship everyone thought it would be perfect. The Titanic was so large that waves were massive when the ship struck them. This caused the ropes to snap, and the ship floated out, causing a very near collision. The Caption and officers received many warning but they figured that it most likely wouldn’t be a big deal and continued full speed ahead. But at 11:40 pm, a lookout spotted an iceberg! But at that point, it was too late. The Titanic struck the iceberg which made the ship create holes below the water. It was filling up with water quickly and it was doomed to sink. At 2:20 a.m. on April 15th, the ship snapped in two and sank to the bottom of the ocean, where it would rest forever. Over 1,500 people had died due to the lack of safety equipment, which made the aftermath the creation of many more rules and regulations. While the sinking of the Titanic was a terrible moment in history, a hard lesson was learned and many lives have been saved due to the rules and regulations that were created as a result of the accident.

I was able to place 1st in both long jump and the 4x220 relay race, but I unfortunately won 2nd place in my 100m short-distance race. Though, I am still pretty proud of myself that I placed. For three years, I've had a consistent streak of winning 1st place in all my events, long jump, 100m race, and relay, so it's been a very long time since I have won 2nd. I'm very grateful that I could achieve this, but it's just a bit sad that I could've won 1st. In my first heat of the 100m race, I went against girls that were not looking very confident in winning, so I beat them because I believed in myself. I luckily didn't go against the girl that beat me in the final, because she also won 1st place in the 2nd race that I was not in. Before the final race, I was very nervous. I have seen the girl that beat me play in basketball, and she's pretty fast. So knowing that she was probably very confident in beating me, was scary if I do say so myself. Then the race begins. On yours marks.. get set... GO! And so I run as fast as I possibly can. I was already ahead of everyone, but the other girl seemed liked we were running at the exact same pace. I kept my head forward and focused on the prize. Then, at the corner of my left eye, I could see her running faster than I was and I knew at the point I couldn't go ahead. I used all my power and running energy in the beginning while she saved it when we were near the finish line. After that, I was announced 2nd place. I'm just a bit mad that I didn't win but hey, you live and you learn, not everything is going to be perfect. I learned that I need to start pacing myself and focus on saving my energy until the end. But after that race, I did was I was supposed to do and used in the relay race. I proudly passed the girl in front of me, and that helped us win 1st place! I am so happy about that! All in all, the track meet was a great learning experience, but all so much fun because of all the people I could spend it with.

This book talks about how sugar has incredibly affected our world today and the impact it has had in our past, and brought into our world today. Sugar, or White Gold, as British colonists called it, was the engine of the slave trade that brought millions of Africans to the Americas beginning in the early 16th-century. Profit from the sugar trade was so significant that it may have even helped America achieve independence from Great Britain. I learned that Gandhi was an advocate to the India workers. India workers back then were treated absolutely horribly, and he wanted to help change that. He wanted to prevent human cruelty, so he defined satya (truth) and ahimsa (non-violence) as positivistic and absolutist respectively. I also learned that Madame Villanuve had a slave named Pauline.. how cruel. King Louis XIV’s rules were that if a slave touched soil, they were “human” again, instead of being slaved. Pauline was then a “human” after that, and she was very relieved. Thomas Jefferson also believed slavery was a type of evil, but he still wanted to to be able to trade and buy sugar from other people. In France, there was no Parliament or Congress and french colonies were in flames! Liberty, equality, and fraternity was the national motto of France and the republic of Haiti. I learned how much sugar impacted our world in the good and the bad. It was a very important part of our history, and I am glad that we, as people, learned to know that human rights are more important than property rights.

If you do not know who Jiffpom is, Jiffpom is a famous pomeranian puppy that is loved by his adorableness and talents! He can stand up on two legs, do a handstand, and even just pose so cutely for pictures. My friend, Mikayla, and I were just casually hanging out in Burbank and we decided to buy Starbucks. After we ordered our Starbucks, we sat at a table where we saw Jiffpom’s instagram page on someone’s computer. We were very confused on why a person would be on Jiffpom’s account but then we saw “edit profile” which meant that it was THEIR account. Mikayla and I looked at each other and our faces were hysterical! We were sitting right next the owners of Jiffpom, but at the time we didn’t even see the dog sitting on the chair just below the table. When the person left again, I looked down and I saw Jiffpom laying on his stomach being such a intelligent and behaved puppy. Our faces broke into the biggest smiles and we really wanted to greet it. When the owner of him noticed we were slightly freaking out, she kindly asked if we wanted a picture, which was very sweet. Mikayla and I then take snapchats and the cutest photos of Jiffpom. He was wearing a purple-ish shirt and did a standing up trick for us, and I swear I died. We couldn’t believe that one of the most famous dogs was just sitting right in front of us.. it was so cool! The funniest thing that happened was that Mikayla and I were both saying “hi” to him like he was say anything back because it’s a dog! HAHA. After that, the owner gave us both a little business card with Jiffpom’s picture and social media information. It’s so cute! In conclusion, I believe that 2017 will be MY year because I have already met One Direction’s drummer, Josh Devine, and now I met Jiffpom in the span of two months! I am so incredibly grateful because I wouldn’t have ever thought I would just meet famous celebrities out of the blue.

The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the desert, enduring temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry. It a place for you to reflect and giving up something for Jesus. This Lent, I want to focus on using proper manners like saying “please” because I have been lacking on saying it to my parents. They’re always trying to teach me every time I don’t, so I want to work on that. I also want to try to have more patience towards my family and friends. Lately, I’ve had little ability to have patience for some people. It’ll definitely be a challenging month for me, but I know in my gut that if Jesus can be in a desert for forty days, then I can face my struggles until the end of Lent. “Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism. Today, Christians focus on their relationship with God, often choosing to give up something or to volunteer and give of themselves for others. Sundays in Lent are not counted in the forty days because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter" and the reverent spirit of Lent is tempered with joyful anticipation of the Resurrection.” I hope that during your time of Lent, you can try to reflect on your Christian Life and endure what concerns for you.

Ariana Grande is an amazing singer/actress who has three spectacular albums such as: Yours Truly, My Everything, & currently Dangerous Woman, which just came out last year. Her Dangerous Woman Tour recently began on February 3 in Phoenix, Arizona, where it was jam-packed! Her opening guests that perform before her are Victoria Monet and Little Mix. Since I am going to see her on tour on March 31, I am most excited to see Little Mix perform because they are one of my favorite female groups. They will also be performing one of my favorite songs like Secret Love Song or Touch, so I am very happy about that. But most importantly, I am so excited to Ariana Grande, the star of the show. This isn’t my first time hearing her live because I went to the Honeymoon Tour, so I wasn’t really expecting to see any difference between the two tours. But after seeing all the videos that fans took when they went to her show in Phoenix, I knew I wasn’t ready! The choreography she does when she sings her songs are truly incredible, but also her voice.. just wow. The only thing I could possibly compare her to is an angel because that’s what she sounds and looks like to be quite honest! Her outfits are truly unique to her which I love so much. I am so dangerously excited & grateful to hear her live and I hope you can, too!

The Woman’s March was an incredible march that was happening because of Donald Trump become president. People did it because he is known for not really supporting equality and all the bad things he has done to women. Hundreds and thousands of people protested and used their voice to speak out and fight for what is right. Over 5 Million of us worldwide and over 1 Million in Washington, D.C., came to march, speak and make our voices heard. Protesters were seen not just in America, but even in places like London or Australia. They protested for people who judge women for wearing what they want, equality, There were hundreds and thousands of people which made a sea of pink and bold, feminine colors that was really stood out. This march is known to be one of the largest inaugural protests ever in history which is very sad. We shouldn’t have to be such a large quantity of people because that just shows why we need this change in our country really badly but we can’t do anything about it for the mean time. I really believe that we need to consider what is right in our country such as equality for all, women’s rights, and that all lives matter. I think this because I really taught myself as a girl that not all things are fair for us and even because I am a POC. Celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Lauren Jauregui, Troye Sivan, the list goes on… even participated in the powerful protests which is very strong because they have a such a big platform to teach so many people the good in our world. I hope that one day you get your community, family, or friends to make history and use your voice to fight for our rights.
